On New Years Day, a few members of Barkaway got together for a walk in Chaddersley Corbett Woods.
5 cars, 8 humans, and 16 dogs all arrived at the woods, to find that luckily, there was just enough space to park all the vehicles together. We managed to put on boots and extract all the dogs from the cars without too much fuss. We entered the woods, briefly posing for an opening shot, before moving on to a field, where all 16 dogs managed to lose and find their balls repeatedly.
We then followed our trail leader Lou, through the woods on an exploratory journey, with all the dogs following rabbit scents, and searching for the elusive deer. Sadly with 16 dogs we didn’t see much of anything, except other walkers and their dogs (who seemed to turn around and find another path at the sight of us!).
After a walk lasting a couple of hours, we returned to the field where we managed to get all the dogs to pose for a photo. This didn’t include Raffi, as he was using the opportunity to try and find the deer the others had missed.

After a quick trouser change, we all retired to the pub, along with Helen’s Mum & Dad. Only for lunch, mind you, as we were nearly all driving!
Somewhere in between the toffee sundae and jam roly poly (without custard, as they had run out, also no steaks, gammon or mash!?!), the heavens opened and it poured and poured. It seems that we had timed it just right.
A quick dash to Helen and Neil’s new house. Long discussions about dog behaviour, the state of the world, and the unfortunate incident in St Helens, all washed down with tea (drivers) and wine (lucky non-drivers) followed. All in all, it was a lovely end for most of us, to our Christmas holidays. |
