Shannan . . .

I had to make the heartbreaking decision yesterday to release Shannan from the pain she was enduring bravely,as was the amazing dog she was.

Four weeks ago, the vet told me she was in fantastic condition and was stunned to discover that she was over ten and a half, and thought she had a touch of arthritis.

It was only two weeks ago that the vet diagnosed her condition as bone cancer, and she went steadily down hill from then, even the strongest painkillers did not seem to help her.

Watching my beautiful, proud girl struggle down the garden path was just to much to bear. I loved her too much to let here struggle any more. It was not an easy decision, as you all know, but she died peacefully in my arms at the vets, and they let me stay with her for as long as I needed to.

You all know the pain of losing a beloved companion - only "dog people" can appreciate the heartache I am experiencing.

I would like to thank everyone who has texted me with words of comfort and support.

And Ian ...... thank you for all your patience - you remember Shannan when I first brought her to you - we were both nervous wrecks!! - Can you remember me crawling through the tunnel in a bid to get her to follow me??!!!

Agility has become a major part of my life, originally just because I wanted to find an activity to stimluate Shannan's brain and to keep her fit as her aggressive tendencies prevented me from walking her normally, but later because we both enjoyed it so much.

I was told by three "dog trainers" to have Shan put down due to her aggression - I am glad I followed my heart, and channeled her energies into something she loved.

Shannan has changed the course of not only my life, but many others too - She is the reason I am a Dog Listener and am doing T-Touch. She is the reason that Bruno is with Helen and Neil. She is the reason that I have two more Belgians in my life. She is the reason that Gary and Wendy are now involved in Agility, and have introduced this sport to many of our obedience club members!

Thank you Shannan for choosing me as your companion - I was proud to spend the last seven years of my life with you. I miss you terribly, but hope you are now at peace.

Louise
